Online Therapy (Telehealth) in Michigan

Telehealth sessions let you meet with Dr. Lehmann by secure video when coming to the Franklin office is not practical, or when meeting from home simply works better for you.

Who can use telehealth

Psychologists are licensed by state, and the rule that matters is where you are physically located at the time of the session, not where you live. Dr. Lehmann is licensed in Michigan, so telehealth sessions are for clients who are in Michigan when they join the call.

If you travel or split your time between states, mention it when you call so you can plan sessions around it.

In-person or online?

Many people use both. Some start in the office and switch to video for weeks when travel, illness, or schedules make that easier. Others prefer the office for the privacy of being away from home.

Telehealth can be a good fit when driving is difficult, when you are recovering from treatment, or when finding an hour in the day is the main barrier. The office may suit you better if you do not have a private place at home to talk, or if being in the room matters to you.

Preparing for a video session

A few things make video sessions work well:

  • A private room where you will not be overheard; headphones help
  • A steady internet connection and a charged device with a camera
  • A few minutes before the session to get settled
  • A plan for what you will do if the connection drops, such as a phone number where you can be reached

Privacy

Sessions are held on a video platform intended for healthcare. Dr. Lehmann will explain the platform and how to join before your first online session. Please do not send clinical details by ordinary email or through this website's contact form.

Common questions

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

For many people and many concerns, video therapy works well. It is not the right fit for everyone, and Dr. Lehmann can talk with you about whether the office or video suits your situation better.

Can I do telehealth from outside Michigan?

Sessions are for clients located in Michigan at the time of the session. If you will be out of state, let Dr. Lehmann know ahead of time.

Does insurance cover telehealth?

Many plans cover telehealth psychotherapy, but coverage varies. Ask your insurer whether video sessions are covered under your mental health benefits.

Therapy is not an emergency service. If you are thinking about harming yourself or are in danger, call or text 988 or call 911.
